Gotti Banxx, Montreal-based rapper and producer, just dropped a killer video for his single “See U Later,” which exposes his outstanding songwriting talent and fiery flow that channel his unique vibe and honesty. We have asked Gotti Banxx about his inspiration, projects he’s currently working on, and future plans.

RH: How is Gotti Banxx today?

GB: I’m doing good. Working hard getting ready to drop my first project so I’m excited.

How would you describe your sound?

It’s hard to describe my sound in words. It really depends on the day. With songs like “Sometimes” & “See U Later,” I’d say melodic, happy and bouncy. But the project has some darker cuts for sure. Stuff I would call more nostalgic and vulnerable.

What first got you into music?

I mean I always loved music, hip-hop in particular. But I also loved melodies and how catchy they were. I used to watch music videos and tell myself I wanna make others feel how this makes me feel. So I kinda took matters into my own hands and started writing and eventually, it led to recording and making songs.

Can you tell us a bit more about your new release “See U Later”?

So “See U Later” is a story where a certain woman wants things from you you are unable to provide, not because you can’t but because you don’t want to, and that drives her crazy. It came together in an unusual way. I was with a friend who’s very religious and he was watching bible adaptations and as I happened to walk in, they were talking about the book of revelations and it had said something along the lines of “ I saw a woman drunk of the blood of the saints” and that just stuck with me. “She gets drunk off my blood like the book of revelations”. I didn’t mean it literally but I find the meaning behind it relatable because there’s a lot of women out there who will play with your head. When that happens to throw up a deuce and say “See U Later”.

Is there anything you want people to take away from the music video?

I mean I was singing with a knife to my throat just to get the point across. I thought that was dope, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone do that before. Besides that, we kept the video relatively simple. We knew the song was powerful so we just wanted to give it some visuals to add some texture to it without making it too complicated.

How is this drop different from your previous release “Sometimes”?

“Sometimes” is a song I made for the clubs. It’s really a party song in my opinion. “See U Later” was more on that driving at night vibe. Both of them carry a similar theme but the delivery was just subtly different.

What’s your biggest inspiration?

I’ve been told “no” a lot as far as music is concerned. I’ve been told by teachers I would never amount to anything. I used to get made fun of a lot for wanting to pursue music. So I just have this infinite drive to end up on top and kinda rub it in certain people’s faces. Call it a chip on my shoulder.

Which musician would you like to collaborate with?

That’s a long list. I mean eventually, I’d like to work with Drake, Tory Lanez, Young Thug & Future. Those are my top guys but I could name another 50 people if I had too.

What’s next for you?

More music. More videos. More shows. Just more everything. I already have another project in the works so after Very Special drops I’m gonna have a follow up shortly after. I’m really gonna apply pressure in the coming year.

If you had one message to convey to your fans, what would it be?

My debut project Very Special is coming soon. I can’t wait to share it with everyone so be on the lookout for that. And just be happy and enjoy your life cuz life’s way too short. That’s the vibe I’m on.
